It’s rare that one gets an opportunity to meet a talented photographer, a talented film maker, a talented teacher, a great musician, a comedian, a technical nerd and a freaking all-around cool person. Now imagine how rare it is to meet a person who is all of those things rolled into one! My buddy Kevin Good, who you’ve seen around here before, asked me to help him shoot a video shootout comparison of the Nikon D800 and the Canon 5D Mark III. After begging EVERYONE who had the new Canon if we could use theres, I ended up buying one myself at Photoshop World from MidWest Photo Exchange. We got started on what was supposed to be a warmish clear Friday that ended up being drizzly and cold. We shot all day Friday and part of the day on Sunday. Kevin took over all the edits along with the help of his brother, Paul and my useless handholding. I hope you enjoy what Kevin was hoping to be a hilarious but technical review of the new Nikon D800 and the new Canon 5D Mark III. Don’t forget to share the love!!

First of all, Lori and her entire family are awesome. Just wanted to get that out of the way. I’ve known Lori for about 3 years, since she and her family came to Fort Monroe. When she contacted me about coming over to photograph her family and her brother, Mike’s family I was super excited. It has been years since Mike’s family has been able to come and visit Lori and hers. So, I got to be a small part of their family reunion and a really cool afternoon at Burke Lake Park in Burke Virginia! Here are some of my favorite pictures.

Katy and Dave = dream clients.

Not only are the both beautiful, right? Katy was the client who would take the do not touch sign off and climb on things you weren’t allowed to just to get the perfect shot! She was pretty much a photographers dream. Katy and Dave are both in the film arena as a film editor and a sound mixer, respectively. They don’t live near each other at present, so this photo shoot was both an opportunity to have their engagement session, sessioned but also to spend some time together. I had a blast and by the looks on their face it looks like they did too!

Welcome Baby Maeve!!

My daughter’s, Lilly and Anna, have been little stewards of the pre-school Montessori system since they were 2 1/2. When we moved back to DC from the Hampton Roads area we were really, really worried about the transition to a new Montessori school. After shopping and finding the Springs Montessori School to not only have the best tuition rates in NOVA but also to have a great, loving, and kind staff we relaxed. I was all too eager to give back to this awesome couple by taking their newborn baby, Maeve’s, first little pictures. Thank you to Maureen and Dan for taking care of my daughters, seeing that they behave, learn, and most of all, feel loved. Congratulations on your first little baby. Maeve is the best little baby I’ve had the privilege of photographing!

I had the pleasure of photographing my friends, The Dempsey’s, and their spouses/children. I’ve been photographing them for the last 3 years. They’ve not only trusted me from the start but have been faithful ever since. I’ve absolutely loved watching their family grow in numbers, blessings, and love. I couldn’t think of a better group of people for it to happen to.

Josh and Lily Redux

Do you remember the wedding client I had where it rained for her ENTIRE wedding day?! Well, thankfully she was a wise one and has the bridal portrait session with her package. Today may be the most beautiful November day the DMV has ever seen. The venue, Stoney Creek Farms, in Maryland was kind enough to let us go and do the session there for no additional fees at all!

I’ve been doing this count down thankfulness challenge on FaceBook this month and I just had to shout out to some of the best clients I’ve ever had today. Josh and Lily are so in love – and so photogenic! They make my job super easy. After a drive up with Louis CK on the radio, a beautiful photoshoot, and a drive back with Louis CK on the radio, I can officially say that i had a BLAST today.

Sarah and Ellie

I love to shoot candidly. Especially when it comes to families with little ones. I like to walk around like I’m their personal photojournalist telling the story of their day. For one, it makes the kids happy to be having fun with Mom and Dad and for two, there is nothing more genuine and beautiful that a joyful smile from a little one. It’s pretty amazing.

When Sarah contacted me asking for that exact thing, I was elated! We walked all around Georgetown and had a blast. Sarah’s husband and Ellie’s father asked to remain anonymous, so while he was very much a great part of the session, there are no photos of his likeness in this blog post. Thank you to Sarah, Ellie’s Dad, and Ellie for a great shoot. You have a beautiful family and I was happy to spend the afternoon with you.

About 3 months ago I got a very special e-mail. Maybe the most special e-mail I’ve ever gotten and one of the biggest reaffirmations that I’ve ever received. A sweet girl named Jacquleyn found a photograph of mine on flickr (a photo sharing website) as an inspiration piece of sorts for an art project she was doing for school. She sent me an e-mail months later after a long search to thank me for being an inspiration to her.

It was my first fan letter.

When I told my Mom about it, she said, “Well, now you know you’re doing the right thing. When people are inspired by what you do, you are using the talent God gave you.” We exchanged a few OMG e-mails when she mentioned that her sister, Nina, was getting married at the end of October and did I do weddings? And that’s where it all began.

I met the rest of the Jorgensen family and just have had an absolute joy getting to know their family. I have to say I have never met a sweeter group of people. You could definitely feel love filling the room.

Congratulations, Nina and Chris! I wish you a long and happy marriage.

Skyping with my Aislinn!

Just about every night I skype with one of my best girlfriends, Aislinn. She’s an amazingly talented photographer based out of Atlanta, Georgia. We lived in the same neighborhood when we were little, we went to high school together, we have children about the same age, our husbands are both in school, the list goes on. The most annoying thing we have in common is that we both have that after-baby pudge we’re trying to get rid of. So, we decided that since we spend all night together anyway, we should work out. We ordered P90x and started the plyometrics work out today. Let me tell you – my thighs are ON FIRE. Here’s some screen shots of our faces AFTER the workout.
